Death Spiral Battlefield

A printable WWI battlefield set built beneath Death Spiral dogfights.

Finished prototype sections create the physical mission space for aircraft, HexAxis stands, cratered hexes, trench lines, and hard flight decisions.

Battlefield and assembly

The ground beneath the dogfight.

The Death Spiral Battlefield is the current WWI set. Hexlink is the developing term for the way printed sections may connect or align; it is not being used here as the name for the whole battlefield.

Death Spiral Battlefield

The current WWI set: cratered ground, trench boundaries, and mission space beneath the aircraft.

Hexlink assembly

Hexlink names the developing connection or alignment work between printed battlefield sections.

Broader terrain work

The modular construction may later inform other Hexwerks tables, but the current focus is the Death Spiral Battlefield.

Finished prototype

A battlefield built from printed sections.

The photographed table shows the modular surface assembled, painted, and carrying aircraft in play.

Current prototype

Built section by section.

Modular sections
Finished photography shows multiple printed sections assembled into one battlefield.
WWI ground
Cratered hex spaces and trench boundaries establish the documented Death Spiral tabletop.
Hexlink
The connection or alignment work is being developed alongside the battlefield sections.
Mission space
The battlefield gives aircraft, stands, pilots, and scenarios a common physical ground.
Painted table
Current photographs show the printed surface both unfinished and prepared for games.
Next stage
Battlefield development continues through printing, painting, assembly, and table testing.
